Subsidy program to promote the purchase and use of cloth diapers and reusable feminine hygiene products

The Municipality of Rawdon wishes to promote the use of reusable feminine hygiene products to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfill sites and to encourage actions that aim to protect the environment.

Reusable feminine hygiene products have gained popularity  in recent years.  There are basically 3 types of products on the market : the menstrual cup, washable pads and panties. They are used for menstruation and also bladder leaks.

Why use reusable feminine hygiene products?

  • To reduce our ecological footprint, as these reusable products replace hundreds of disposable tampons and pads.  They are also durable for several years.
  • For their many advantages : comfortable, odorless, absorbant, economical, natural, zero waste and easy to maintain.

Do a little research to compare the advantages and disadvantages of each product.  You are sure to find one that suits your needs!

The accepted reusable feminine hygiene products are :

  • Washable diapers and absorbant protective underwear
  • Mentrual cups
  • Washable sanitary pads and panty-liners

Did you know that…

  • The average child uses diapers for two and a half years, which represents nearly 5000 diaper changes!
  • Thus, these little beings produce a ton of waste from birth to potty training.
  • About thirty reusable diapers replace 5000 disposable diapers.
  • The financial assistance program set up by the Municipality of Rawdon in 2017, made it possible to divert 40 tons of disposable diapers from landfill sites!
  • There are 10 subsidies available every year.

Cloth diapers have come a long way since those used by our grandmothers.  Today’s models are used like disposable diapers except, instead of putting them in the trash, you put them in the washer.  The models are very simple and come in a multitude of patterns and colors.  Several are adjustable and can almost be used from birth to potty-training.  Cloth diapers are made up of several layers of fabric.  In general, there is a layer of more absorbant fabrics (cotton, polyester, hemp or bamboo) as well as a waterproof fabric (a diaper cover or integrated into the diaper in the all-in-one models).  Finally, they are fastened using either Velcro or snap fasteners.

The Municipality of Rawdon wishes to promote the use of washable cloth diapers in order to decrease the volume of waste that is sent to landfill sites and to encourage actions that protect the environmentL and sustainable development.

Who Is Eligible for Financial Assistance For the Purchase of Washable Cloth Diapers?
The financial assistance is for persons who, at the time of purchase of the washable cloth diapers, are permanent residents of the Municipality of Rawdon and have parental authority over a child under the age of one (1) year or whose birth is expected within the next three (3) months.
